Andrew Regner moved to Alaska in 2009 from Colorado. He attended college at the Colorado School of Mines for 2.5 years as a Mathematics and Computer Science Major before transferring to the University of Northern Colorado where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics with an emphasis in Secondary Education. He started as a summer school teacher in Golden, Colorado then moved to Anchorage and began teaching at Bartlett High School. He taught Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Advanced Placement Calculus, C++ Programming, and Robotics during his four years at Bartlett. During this time he met his wife, Maxine, who is Inupiaq from Tikigaq (Point Hope, Alaska). She had always dreamed of moving back to her village to experience her traditional way of life, so when a position opened at Tikigaq School, Andrew applied and began teaching in Tikigaq as a Middle and High School Mathematics Teacher and Robotics Coach. He joined his father-in-law’s whaling crew and participated in traditional activities in Tikigaq. After living in Tikigaq the Regner family moved back to Anchorage, where Andrew began teaching at Houston Middle School, then West Anchorage High School. He is currently a Fab Lab Instructor at Cook Inlet Tribal Council teaching students how to fabricate, design, make, and engineer using new technologies like 3D printing, laser cutters, CNC routers as well as programming with Arduinos and Raspberry Pi. Andrew enjoys participating in his wives and his traditional way of life by dancing with Northern Lights Dancers of Anchorage, and Sleeping Lady Mount Susitna Drummers. In his spare time he can be found playing with his two daughters Charla and Anna, Fishing, Hunting, crafting, reading or enjoying the outdoors.
