Brea Harris is the Maker VISTA Project Coordinator—a fancy way of saying that she does a lot of the behind-the-scenes work necessary to keep the Fab Lab growing (recruiting volunteers, managing the website, creating the newsletter, etc.)—which is a perfect job for her Type A personality! Although she grew up in Anchorage (West High School Class of 2011!!!), she only recently moved back after living in Los Angeles for four years and Nashville for two years. She has a BA in Sociology from Azusa Pacific University and a recently minted master’s degree in Community Development and Body Politics from Vanderbilt University. Her experience as a community organizer has fostered her passion for accessible education and informal learning within local communities. After her year of VISTA service is over she will return to graduate school, where she will study to become a women’s health nurse practitioner. She is excited to further explore the ways that making, creating, and art can be utilized as an avenue to more accessible and widely available health information. When not at the Fab Lab, Brea enjoys swimming, playing the flute in the Anchorage Community Concert Band, reading through the Harry Potter books for the first time, listening to podcasts, and writing.
